Lying in the grass
Watching thoughts like airplanes flying across the sky.
I always assumed if someone found out something really big about life they would tell everybody right away. But maybe life is more of a secret thing, and we never say the big thing directly.
It is good to be close to people, to relate to their experience—but other times it is better to keep a distance, so they can look at you as an idea and be encouraged by it.
We never imagine things accurately, because we always imagine them as a picture. In a flash we see life as lived in some place or with some person—but really, if it became so, we would arrive and the picture would keep going. Time is a stranger to the stillframes of our imaginations.
When you are interacting with someone, do not form judgments about who they are, for you are but seeing a glimpse, a thin slice of their whole life. They will have brilliant moments without you.
I see beauty all around me, but I am afraid that if I take a closer look it will all disappear. But even more than being afraid it will leave, I am excited that it will stay. I think this is going to be an adventure.

You are a good friend to me, thank you for sharing.
I kind of agree with what you said about people seeing you as an idea to be encouraged by. Truly, though, don't you find that closeness and distance sort themselves out? Some friends I've tried to keep close just slip away, no matter what I do. It isn't a tragedy, just a natural reality. On the other hand, some that I didn't expect to know my whole life just keep popping up!
I wonder if God has something to do with this.
I usually interact with people, knowing that there is a huge ice berg underneath everyone. Rarely do people see that side and sometimes we have to do a bit of digging.
This is cool:

Such an interesting write!
this is very thought provoking. I think a lot of people know things they don't share, and I think a lot of people know things that they don't know that they know, so they don't share them.
