  • Words with no home

I don’t need to ask you about your new relationship … I have Facebook.

I don’t need to listen to my annoying friend … I can text.

I don’t have to greet people in the street … I have my iPod.

    I don’t have to read … I have television.

I don’t have to find people on a friday night … I have Netflix.

I don’t have to look at other humans … I have my iPhone.

    I don’t need an actual book … I have a Kindle.

    What has happened?

Funny how all these instant communication devices to connect us to other people instead seem to be used to avoid quality interaction. What has happened in our culture anyway? Any time that I have watched TV lately, it seems like half the products are marketed as a way in which you can lie to your significant other. Since when is that considered a good and clever thing to do?

  • Technology brings far away places close, but by being on the internet, for example, we are further from those closest to us (here, I’m thinking of my kids). I’m trying to make 2012 a year of balance between all the cool new thechno thingies, and the real people standing next to me — not easy.

  • That’s pretty incisive… times are definitely changing… and we may be losing out.

  • I hope you don’t mind if I share this on Facebook… it speaks my mind so accurately!

Balance is pretty hard….I obviously have a facebook.  And I watch my fair share of netflix. The rest of the things I have ruled out.  Except for television, simply because other people in my house watch it.  I don’t ever go to watch television on purpose, but I can’t rule it out completely.

But even just facebook and netflix are big enough drains of real-life life themselves. :-/

Not a problem at all.   Although it is a little ironic. Haha.

  • yes, plus—

I don’t need to see with my eyes… I’m looking through my camera.

I don’t need to play scrabble anymore… I have words with friends.

    I don’t need to send letters… I can email.

  • That was a terrible thing to read all at once! My eyes carried the meaning into my soul before I had time to prepare for the anguish. You mind-married a girl in your last post, and I think you just mind-punched me with this one. I mean, I know it’s reality, and I don’t want to run away from reality… but, oof. ;) Well done.

  • ahhh, this is so true!
