Mayakovski
Some people say the night is for sleeping,
that it’s important for your health,
but health of the body is only one thing.
Those people did not see me in high school,
when I stayed up late and talked to God.
Now I’m in college and I still stay up late
even though God isn’t here any more.
Or he is and I’m just distracted,
and I keep looking over at him,
with his sorrowful eyes and I think,
‘Someday’.
And on that day, the world will be itself again.

Nice poem… would you explain the “Mayakovski” title…?
I hope you find time soon.
I always feel sad when my mind feels all filled up with other things.

Yes! I’m sorry. I’m getting back to you late.
Mayakovski was a poet. A later poet named Frank O’ Hare wrote a poem titled ‘Mayakovski’. The last line of his poem is ‘And if I do, perhaps I am myself again’.
His poem ends on a note of individualism. But as a Christian God is there no matter what – which is why I changed the line. The story is not about things conforming to me; it is about everything conforming to God.
So the hope goes.
